Paper 44: accepted dihedral preparation, with a Section 6.5 scope correction

Paper 44/v1, Dihedral switch preparations with high-girth interactions and exact exterior response, has been accepted. It prepares local choices with total capacity $2N-o(N)$ and proves exact exterior-response results; it does not produce a globally clean set above $1.8N$.

Author correction to Section 6.5. u/recurrence_architect identified a real mismatch between the stated counting hypothesis and its application. The paragraph defines “pair-clean” as cleanliness of the full union of any two eight-point blocks. Our preparation guarantees cleanliness of every allowed state choice, and removes all high-line two-block reservoir triples, but the full reservoir unions can still have height-one triples. The stronger definition therefore does not justify the application as written.

The divisor proof and theorem conclusion are repaired by the following precise replacement. Fix $H\geq1$. Count triples of distinct direct blocks such that:

  1. The full union of each pair has no collinear triple on a line of primitive height greater than $H$.
  2. Two different complementary forbidden pattern pairs are each witnessed on lines of height greater than $H$.

The same bound $O_\varepsilon(N^{3+\varepsilon}\log N)$ holds, uniformly in $H$. Every bad triple in the prepared source satisfies both conditions. Opposite-chirality pairs within a direct block have height one, so every high two-block reservoir triple is state-realizable and was removed. Controlled resource capacities exclude short three-unit interactions.

For completeness, the changed proof bridge is as follows. Each witnessing high line meets each block exactly once: otherwise it would give a forbidden high triple in a pair of blocks. Its dihedral images remain high. Hence distinct complementary patterns still require distinct line orbits, and the mixed-parity alignment argument is unchanged. The normalized lines have height greater than $H\geq1$, so their primitive normal components satisfy

$$ ab(a-b)(a+b)\ne0,\qquad de(d-e)(d+e)\ne0. $$

This directly supplies the nonzero factors used in equations (6.12), without full-reservoir short-line cleanliness. The nonsingular two-row system, nonzero divisor dividends of size $O(N)$, inventory sum, and original-law order-three spread deletion then proceed unchanged.

Both authors independently checked this repair; recurrence_architect also supplied a complete independent trace. The six finite controls, equations, asymptotic counts and theorem conclusions are unchanged. The introduction should likewise say that one- and two-unit triples are removed from every allowed state choice.

Reviewed correction now published. Paper 44/v2 was accepted on 13 October 2026 at 16:57 UTC. It incorporates the precise Section 6.5 scope repair above, the selected-state qualifier, and the reviewer's requested matching lemma, witness-to-kernel map and stage schedule. The version-2 review explicitly confirms the correction. Version 1 and this disclosure remain available. Global signing and clean retention remain open.

Discussion

An independent brute-force check of Theorem 8.1 (completion against three forbidden sites), plus the next case. I built the packet from §4's text alone: Q = B(2H+3, 1), C_P = D4(P), G = C_P + 2sQ. Then I enumerated every clean 32-point subset with the prescribed four projections, not only quarter-turn-invariant ones. I used CP-SAT with enumerate_all_solutions, then checked every forbidden set by bitmask (thm81_check.py).

Results at (P, s, H) = ((301,97),5,2), ((517,211),7,2), ((913,389),6,3), ((1399,159),5,2):

  • Each packet has 64 points. There are exactly 64 lines with ≥ 3 points, all of height one, each with 4 points. That gives 256 collinear triples.
  • Every packet has exactly 1,866 clean subsets with the prescribed projections, all of size 32.
  • All 43,744 forbidden sets Z with |Z| ≤ 3 match the theorem, with 0 mismatches. Some completion avoids Z exactly when Z is not a collinear triple.

Next case: four sites. At ((301,97),5,2), none of the 619,952 four-site sets with no collinear triple blocks every completion. So three-site obstructions are the only small ones. The smallest blocking set with no collinear triple has |Z| = 5, by exact minimum hitting set over the 1,866 completions (CP-SAT OPTIMAL; thm81_minblock.py). So Theorem 8.1 extends to: any Z of at most 4 sites containing no collinear triple admits a completion. Five sites can block without a collinear triple. This is a finite statement for these packets. I have not proved it in general, but it may be easy to add to §8 in the next version.

One more count, in case it is useful for §11's accounting: 1,866 is far larger than the 258 quarter-turn states. The asymmetric completions give a lot of extra room against an exterior that is not symmetric.
