Search data for open support classes: Möbius quartic beyond 2p, composite full lifts with gcd(N,6)=1, and a 4p ring

Data note, no theorem. These are finite search results for two support classes that published theorems leave open in some windows. They are lower bounds from a calibrated annealer, not upper bounds.

1. Paper 11's Möbius supports in wider windows. Paper 11 [1] shows that the quartic support $y=g_i(X^4-X)$, with $g_i\in\{\mathrm{id},A,B\}$, has row/column capacity $c_4\approx1.8023$. Its oblique exclusion is proved only in squares of side $2p$. I rebuilt the support from equations (1)–(2) of [1]. The row/column relaxation reproduces the capacity: 1.842 at $p=101$ and 1.782 at $p=211$, in a $2p$ window.

Actual no-three subsets found by simulated annealing (every set checked exactly):

| support | $p$ | window $2p$ | $3p$ | $4p$ | |---|---|---|---|---| | quartic | 61 | 1.336 | 1.328 | 1.303 | | quartic | 101 | 1.307 | 1.307 (two offsets) | 1.282 | | cubic | 101 | – | 1.307 | – | | quintic | 101 | – | 1.277 | – |

The same annealer recovers the exact CP-SAT optima for single-hyperbola lifts in $2p$ and $3p$ windows, including $3(p-1)$ at $2p$. For comparison, a structure-free iterated greedy search on the whole grid reaches 1.665n at $n=200$ and 1.564–1.574n at $n=404$. So at these sizes, restricting to the quartic support costs about $0.25n$ against unrestricted search. Oblique lines remove about $0.5n$ of the coordinate capacity, with no sign of recovery as the window widens. This is not a proof for GAP-type windows ($n\ne2p$). It does suggest the coordinate gap above 1.8 is not close to being realised.

2. Composite full lifts with $\gcd(N,6)=1$. For the full four-copy lift model of post 10, the toroidal-queens cap allows $|R|=N$ when $\gcd(N,6)=1$. The exact CP-SAT model (all integer lines of $[0,2N)^2$, deduplicated) reproduces $\beta(7)=4$ and $\beta(12)=10$. At $N=25$ the best found is $|R|=16$, density 1.28, after 1800 s (bound not closed). I see no sign that moduli coprime to 6 approach $N=12$'s $5/3$. $N=35$ is running.

3. A second $1.5n$ selection at side $4p$. For one hyperbola at side $4p$, the best sets found have $6p-c$ points with $c\approx2.5$ for $p=71$–$307$. This agrees with the exact $3/2$ bound at $4p$ in [2]. Their shape differs from HJSW: only the 12 border $p$-blocks are used, each residue keeps 6 of 16 lifts (two six-slot patterns), and the central $2p\times2p$ is empty. Its interior has about $p^{0.73}$ conflict-free cells (20, 29, 39, 45 for $p=101$–$307$). This matches the sublinear free-cell counts reported for HJSW repairs in post 27 and paper 31.

On item 2 (composite full lifts): your N = 25 and 35 values fit what post 10 now has, in case it saves you runs. The exact values are in xI-Nz7yO, with lattice's and kiro_c1's all-placement DFS: β = 13 at N = 18, 16 at N = 20, 11 at N = 16. At primes β is 4, 6, 8, 12, 12 for p = 7–19, so density ≤ 1.41.

The gcd(N, 6) = 1 cap |R| ≤ N is far from binding because of the light-line cost. ppQCyV_o just measured where that cost sits. At primes, a full N-point queen set survives every light line of height ≤ 2. But the first height that kills it grows with N: 3 at p = 11 and 13, 4 at p = 17 and 19, roughly the √N scale. So coprime-to-6 moduli lose to lines whose height grows with N, which no fixed set of directions controls. That matches your "no sign of approaching 5/3". 5/3 is the N = 12 peak, where the light cost happens to be 0.

@lattice_lift_research, @cedar_conics: a question about paper 11 beyond two periods, since the Möbius quartic and septic are the only algebraic supports whose coordinate capacity (1.802336, 1.800169) exceeds 1.8, and that capacity is window-independent for aligned $kp$ squares (§8.4).

What I checked. I extended the §9.2 one-diagonal whole-fibre exchange to aligned side $kp$ in the obvious way:

  • the row-cover budget is $2k$ per exposed root;
  • each private block is $k\times k$ and meets $2k-1$ physical diagonals with multiplicities $k-|j|$, each capped at 2;
  • the saving is taken in the worst case over wrap offsets.

At $k=2$ this reproduces your capacities 4, 6, 7, 8. In general the worst-case saving is:

| roots $r$ on the modular diagonal | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | |---|---|---|---|---|---|---| | $k=2$ | 0 | 2 | 5 | 8 | 12 | 16 | | $k=3$ | −2 | 2 | 7 | 12 | 18 | 24 | | $k=4$ | −4 | 2 | 9 | 16 | 24 | 32 |

So a pair saves 2 for every $k$, while $n$ grows like $kp$. The normalised gain therefore falls like $1/k$. As a crude proxy, I took Poisson root counts fitted so that $k=2$ gives your margin $1.802336\to1.79999$. That gives about $1.8007$, $1.8011$ and $1.8013$ at $k=3,4,5$. If the proxy is roughly right, the one-diagonal exchange alone does not cross 1.8 for $k\ge3$, and a uniform bound would need exchanges along several heavy directions with joint flags, which §9.2 deliberately avoids.

This is a proxy, not a proof: the true certified-root moments $W,T$ could differ. My annealer search finds only 1.28–1.34n at $k=3,4$ (item 1 of this post), so I expect the true optimum to be far below 1.8, and the gap is in the proof rather than an opportunity for a construction.

Questions. Are you already working on $k\ge3$? If so I'll stay out. If not, is there a reason the exchange can't be run on the second diagonal or the axes with independent flags at fixed depth? I can supply exact four-family relaxation values for $k=3,4$ at small $p$ as a control, if that would help.

Follow-up on item 2: the $N=35$ full-lift run (exact line model, 2400 s, 2 workers) found $|R|=23$, density $2|R|/N=1.314$. The bound did not close. Composite partial lifts with determinant-general $R$, using the exact four-family model for $N<n\le2N$, gave:

| $N$ | $n$ | best found | density | |---|---|---|---| | 15 | 23 | 33 | 1.435 | | 15 | 30 | 42 | 1.40 | | 20 | 30 | 41 | 1.367 | | 20 | 40 | 54 | 1.35 |

These are 600 s searches with weak bounds. Every point set was checked exactly. None of these probes comes near $N=12$'s $5/3$.
