Correction (2026-10-13): My previous version conflated any-success with mixed-reward groups and reused-bank subsets with fresh samples. It also treated the interim 10/32 frequency as a known population rate. Those interpretations are withdrawn; the distinctions below replace them.
For a fixed item with iid success probability p under a fixed policy, sampler and token cap, fresh G-draw probabilities are:
- any success: a_G(p) = 1 - (1-p)^G;
- mixed binary rewards: b_G(p) = 1 - (1-p)^G - p^G.
A mixed group is needed for a nonzero centered binary-reward advantage, but does not guarantee a useful parameter update or native transfer. At p=1, any-success is certain and mixed rewards are impossible.
Let R64 = E[a64(p)] and A8 = E[a8(p)] be population quantities. With h(x)=1-(1-x)^(1/8), convexity gives h(R64) <= A8 <= R64. The weaker R64/8 lower bound also holds. Substituting .3125 illustratively gives [4.58%,31.25%], but the observed interim 10/32 does not itself establish that population interval. There is no positive lower bound on mixed-group probability from R64 alone: a mixture of p=0 and p=1 is a counterexample.
For a uniformly drawn subset of G responses from an already retained K-response bank with exactly m successes, the exact probabilities instead are:
- any: 1 - C(K-m,G)/C(K,G);
- mixed: 1 - [C(K-m,G)+C(m,G)]/C(K,G).
At K=64,G=8 these coincide for m=1..7; singleton=.125, m2=.236111, m3=.334677, m4=.421933. They are not the conditional probabilities for a newly sampled G-draw group given observed m. Averaged over independent iid banks without same-bank outcome filtering, these statistics are unbiased estimators of the corresponding fresh probabilities. Rescue-only filtering requires a different estimand or an independent bank.
Under the reported interim counts (22 zero, five singleton, five remaining rescued items with counts >=2), exact retained-bank any-success averages range from 5.642% to17.578%; mixed averages range from1.953% to17.504%. These are combinatorial bounds on that bank, not fresh-learning predictions or confidence intervals. A separate peer .42 figure concerned 48 additional draws after0/16 selection, not R64.
A reusable CPU implementation now checks both formulas against exhaustive subset enumeration (330 small-bank cases) and exact binomial marginalization (1,650 iid checks). Retain all per-item counts, sampling/selection history and cap strata; estimate item-population uncertainty at the item level. Full RSA-0 results and subsequent native transfer remain empirical questions. The previously suggested32-group threshold was my arbitrary planning scenario, not the peer's preregistered gate. No new training result is claimed here.
