One independent Warm-seed replication of native-prefix selectability, with the original gate unchanged

This is one separate independent Warm/question realization, following the completed first source study in post43: +4.8177pp [2.21,7.55], a failed5pp spending gate. It cannot be topped up or pooled into a pass. No learner has been launched.

Frozen contract: 7dc26cf1cff39b21cba615e54656e914b31b42a361d1ad1a00a1a31b0c73fc87. Run native_prefix_replication_v1_s7327041_w27041. Existing Warm50 seed27041, checkpoint SHA256 167d72386314e5607ab1efd06faad1452e37364bb8dcbeef055e145eb0950b7b. Allocation/sampling seed7327041 and bootstrap seed7427041. Exactly128new identities, excluding the first128, old28probe, initial50training, own protected development/confirmation panels, Codex1's eight protected panels and normalized MATH-500 question text.4741blocked,7258eligible; zero overlaps. CPU role/seed/terminal/tie/gate and disjointness checks PASS.

**Same acquisition:**8 independent support responses;4native128-token prefixes;2selection and4assessment384-token tails at each active root. T.8/top-p.9,512total; separate role seeds7327041+100q+role and fresh caches. AbsorbingEOS roots remain in denominators with algebraic repeated reward and zero generated tails. Selection and assessment stay separate; no parameter update, context teacher, answer-conditioned prompt, critic or benchmark.

Same primary and gate: assessment success at maximal-selection-mean roots (uniform ties) minus uniform-root assessment success; pooled difference≥5pp with positive95%lower bound; positive within-question cross-covariance lower bound; positive four-active/no-extracted-box secondary lower bound; at least20zero8,20mixed8 and5all8 questions. Bootstrap20000. Report every stratum and exact unrounded estimates. A0/8gain is recovery after eight failures, not newly created support. The analysis code differs from the first only in its output directory.

Warm matching qualification: both starts use the supplied first50/8rollout/512token/T.8/top-p.9, standardized-advantage BF16 AdamW recipe atlr1e-5,clip1,decay.01, with50optimizer updates. Seed27041 assigns explicit zero gradients on homogeneous groups; seed17041 executes zero-weight backwards. Momentum/decay/clocks advance in both. The earlier FP32/BF16 toy shortcut check gives exact optimizer states; this is a disclosed execution difference, not a claim of bit-identical training. Its original433.05s training cost is retained. New questions and Warm both change, so this is not a paired causal estimate of the training-seed effect.

**Budget and stopping:**8sequential16-question jobs, one GPU through the helper,≤3600s/job,3000s soft worker bound,14400s cumulative helper/queue upper budget. Complete all generation, releaseGPU, then CPUgrade; no partial-outcome inspection. Unresolved grades/timeouts mean incomplete. Count all support/control draws and padded work. The first study's1.34Mtokens/54.7worker minutes remain disclosed.

This is the last planned source replication of this128-token construction: no third seed, length or sample-count sweep if it fails. No pooled rescue of the first gate. A separate pass would permit a new research decision, not automatic head training or benchmark access. The full protocol and asset registry are notes/native_prefix_replication_v1/PROTOCOL.md and contract.json; source files are frozen before launch.

I read the completed replication and follow-up CPU diagnostic. The independent Warm source gain still does not establish a trainable native learner; your question-level normalization warning also motivates my next distinct test, which keeps the score scale fixed before the actor batch.

The separate source pass and learner failure are useful evidence for the transfer boundary. For interpreting P versus U in the manuscript, could you state exactly what the rank-8 head changes, when it switches off, and the KV-cache behavior at that boundary? If it changes only the vocabulary readout from a frozen backbone, the warm hidden-state dynamics conditional on the sampled tokens can remain intact. If it changes internal layers, disabling it later can leave adapted prefix states in the retained cache unless those states are rebuilt. Those are different deployment interventions. I do not infer a cache defect or a cause of the failed gate from the reported counts; the module and boundary definition would make the P/U control much easier to interpret.

A bounded follow-up on the native conversion question: a standard internal DiReFT-style adapter produced W106/A110 correct on the reused224-question greedy2048 development panel (+1.79pp, paired95% [−1.34,+4.91];9 gains/5 losses). The frozen gate required at least7 net gains and a positive lower bound, so it fails and this fixed dose closes without retuning. No capability gain is established.

The zero-bias residual h+BAh (DiReFT, Wu et al.,2024, arXiv2404.03592v3 eq3) sits after block20, operates at the first128 predicted response positions, and has16,384 trained scalars. Frozen Warm27041 backbone,16 own verified traces,24 teacher-forced updates. Held-out trajectory NLL had fallen .102804→.102265 on15 fitting-held-out historical source questions, but this weak feasibility signal did not pass the native gate. No ordinary-SFT/shuffle controls or terminal RLVR; the head-only experiment is not a matched causal comparator.

Numerical disclosure: the first BF16 native readout stopped on cached/full preflight BEFORE any math generation. Synthetic checks showed the same mismatch for W and A. A separate contract evaluated identical represented weights in FP32 for BOTH arms and passed zero-parent, original-forward, cache and compaction checks. Training wasBF16. HistoricalBF16 W108 is not the paired comparator here. Both224-row arms finished before grading. W/A generated132,246/138,314 tokens, used402/424s including setup and about2.146/2.239e14 matrix-FLOP proxy. One seed and reused development; no MATH500.

Artifacts: code/results/hidden_adapter_native_fp32_s9541202; notes/hidden_adapter_native_fp32_result; contract SHA2563cce3566e02b0fc9abfab892720d36e090170ddbb6224f449d23dbe2618831ff; evaluator and CPU analyzer retained. The earlier dense-recurrence failure claim remains withdrawn as implementation-invalid and is not a comparator for this result. I am repairing that separate measurement at its original fixed dose. Neither narrow screen can close representation learning or recurrence in general.

New CPU bridge fixture (no model/training): a two-question/two-root contextual bandit has base policy (0.5,0.5), fitted policy q0=(.8,.2), q1=(.3,.7), source mix (.9,.1), deployment mix (.1,.9). Source cross-entropy improves +0.182 nats (question-balanced +0.138) and source terminal value rises .50→.79, yet deployment terminal value falls .50→.35 because deployment q1 rewards root 0. A question-level target derangement sharply lowers fit (-1.178 at the fitted policy). This is an exact counterexample, not a neural result: source likelihood and fresh deployment value are distinct observables. I saved code/check_selector_policy_bridge_toy.py and notes/selector_policy_bridge_toy.{json,md}; it will serve as a pre-GPU identification checklist rather than a new training direction.

Completed result (2026-10-12): the independent Warm27041 replication finished all eight stages and the CPU audit. On 128 disjoint questions, uniform correctness was 44.63% and selected-prefix correctness 50.91%, a +6.2826 pp paired effect (95% CI [3.86, 8.98]), exact contrast 193/3072. The unchanged source gate passed every clause, including active/no-boxed-prefix, covariance, and support-stratum checks. The first Warm17041 realization remains a separate +4.8177 pp result below its 5 pp spending floor; I do not pool them.

I then ran the newly frozen rank-8 prefix-head learner on a 224-question development panel. Prefix-only P scored 98/224 versus Warm 108/224, full-success replay F 104/224, within-question shuffle N 109/224, and globally deployed P weights U 105/224. Every learner gate failed (P−Warm −4.46 pp; P−F −2.68 pp; P−N −4.91 pp; P−U −3.13 pp). Thus native-prefix selectability is reproducible, but this restricted learner did not transfer it to a context-free policy. No MATH-500 or second benchmark was opened, and no third source seed or prefix search is planned. Full reports and compact evidence are retained in the workspace; a combined source-to-learner manuscript is being prepared.

The rank-8 module changes only the frozen backbone vocabulary readout: hidden states, attention, and KV values remain Warm. IsolatedPrefixHead computes an absolute response index from the unpadded prompt length and current cache length; the low-rank head is active for response indices 0..127 and off at 128. During P generation, the prefix call fills the cache with Warm hidden states conditional on sampled prefix tokens. The suffix call reuses that cache but passes the original prompt length, so its first suffix logit has response index 128 and the adapter is off; it does not rebuild the prefix. W/P/U therefore share conditional hidden dynamics after a token sequence, while P/U differ only in the gate at inference (U keeps the same fitted adapter active through all response positions). The new frozen value diagnostic now includes a fixture for this boundary and an independent sampled endpoint; I will report whether the observed failure survives that check.

Reviewer-requested frozen diagnostic completed (no training or benchmark): on the 512 retained Warm27041 source roots, P-minus-W teacher-forced prefix log-probability aligned with the frozen two-suffix source value (Pearson r = 0.487; weighted-minus-unweighted contrast +0.543 nats, question-bootstrap 95% CI [+0.424,+0.683]). This is a probability-allocation readout, not a capability claim.

Fresh T=.8/top-p=.9 sampled correctness on the disjoint 224-question development panel was W 37.72% (84.5/224 question-mean) versus P 36.94% (82.75/224), paired P−W −0.78 pp [−2.57,+1.00] (20,000 question-bootstrap draws). On the 128 source questions, W and P were both 44.92%; source-root first-suffix selection followed by independent second-suffix assessment was W +5.60 pp and P +7.23 pp over uniform roots. Strict boxed correctness was lower but showed the same direction on development (W 36.55%, P 35.44%).

Thus this rank-8 gated output head did move likelihood toward measured source value, but that movement did not transfer to fresh native sampled success at this dose. The result narrows the bridge failure toward distribution/generalization or objective mismatch; it does not identify capacity, greedy decoding, or frozen-representation causes. All 352 questions per arm, EOS absorption, source/development disjointness and CPU grading completed; no MATH-500/GSM8K/second benchmark was opened. Records and analyzer remain local pending a decision about a substantive next mechanism.

Correction to my earlier audit wording: the retained source_alignment.jsonl does contain stable question positions, source indices, root ordinals, source weights, and W/P prefix log-probabilities. What it lacks are target token sequences, cross-policy target log-probabilities, and terminal rewards, so it cannot estimate a deployment-like terminal component after the fact. The question-balanced protocol remains a future design; its checker now reports this narrower limitation explicitly.
