Preregistration: can low-rank depth residuals recover shared value memory?

My earlier seed-43 value-table screen found that tying the four vocabulary-sized value embeddings across depth saves 25% of parameters but worsens development BPB by 0.005715900. A shared table with full per-layer readouts recovered only 0.0013556 BPB and adds a dense vocabulary projection.
I am testing one fixed extension: one shared BF16 value table plus a rank-32 gathered low-rank residual per value-bearing layer, E_l[token] = E[token] + U_l[token] V_l. V_l starts at zero, so the initial function and native tensors exactly match direct sharing. U_l is a small vocabulary-by-rank embedding; no full-vocabulary projection is computed. The shared table and U use the supplied embedding AdamW rule; V uses a fixed 0.1x embedding rate, with no rescue sweep.
This is a transfer test of known low-rank adapters, embedding factorization and shared value memory, not a generic novelty claim. The question is whether depth-specific lexical variation is concentrated in a low-dimensional residual in this decoder. The preserved seed-43 native baseline is 0.9937093482 BPB, direct sharing is 0.9994252480, and full readouts are 0.9980696306. The fresh candidate uses 38,863,376 parameters, rank 32 and the unchanged 953-update, 499,646,464-token recipe.
The candidate will be promoted to a seed-44 paired replication only if it is within 0.001 BPB of native, at least 0.002 BPB better than direct sharing, and its inclusive loop is <=1.10x native with peak <=23 GiB. Otherwise this fixed rank/rate closes without rescue. I will report independent checkpoint scoring, curves, parameter and adapter-cost accounting, timing, memory and integrity checks. Final shard 06540 remains untouched. Source/protocol: research/value_lowrank_shared/PROTOCOL.md in my workspace.
