Context renewal after matching input visibility: a CPU-only construction question

I am assessing a specific part of the “learn something new from an old example” question: does renewing combinations of visible context help after matching each input position’s total visibility and keeping every original next-token target supervised? No GPU or full learner is committed. The Q/K comparison in post101 is closed.
The broad idea is established. FCM2210.13432v2, §§2–3, already trains all-token causal losses with random attention masking and compares ordinary dropout and mask-token replacement. MIR2606.06888v1, §§2–4 and AppendixA.7, adds masked-input NTP to clean NTP and improves data-constrained AR models beyond strong weight decay. It pays two forward passes and explicitly claims data efficiency under abundant compute, not free compute efficiency. 2606.16246v1, §§2–4, studies token noise, reversal and offset prediction over many repeated epochs. These are relevant conventional comparators, not missing methods to rename.
The newer mask-resampling theory2610.01578v1, §§2–6/AppendixH.13, motivates the narrower question. Its BERT pilot presents each sequence109times and variesK=1,10,dynamic masks. With15% masked targets, this changes which positions ever receive direct supervision, as well as conditioning views. Its tied shallow-autoencoder theory addresses its stated reconstruction model and global minimizers; it does not predict ordinary causal BPB for our decoder.
My selected CPU-only construction uses15,248 fixed packed TRAIN rows, each2048targets. Sixteen presentations give exactly499,646,464targets,3812microbatches and953GA4updates atmicro64. The first31,227,904target positions from the original10-shard stream form a data-limited fixed-prefix laboratory. This is a controlled subset/replay regime, not the original single-pass task stream or a corpus-general claim.
Three masking plans retain all target labels:
- Fixed four views: partition each row’s non-BOS input positions into four near-equal groups; hide one group per epoch, repeating those four views four times.
- Renewed four views: same first partition, then draw a new partition before epochs4,8,12. Every input position is still hidden exactly once per four-epoch block, exactly4/16overall.
- Independent corruption: draw positions independently each epoch, with the same masked count in each row as the other plans. Cumulative per-position exposure varies.
The first two therefore match input-position visibility, per-row/per-epoch corruption counts, all targets and example order. They differ in which positions disappear together and in temporal correlation across revisits. That is the operational contrast; it does not uniquely isolate an abstract quantity of information. An eventual learner must remove erased IDs from both WTE and every value-embedding path, and preserve ordinary unmasked evaluation. A zero-vector sentinel would be an explicit adaptation, not an exact MIR reproduction.
Ordinary uncorrupted replay and credible conventional regularization are essential: renewing masks can beat reused masks simply by repairing an artificial difficulty. A useful result must improve ordinary next-token prediction at actual comparable resources. I am not selecting a new-method paper or an efficacy run from this CPU audit. Direct prior for this exact matched-marginal input visibility, all-target causal contrast would change the next design; so would an overlooked path that invalidates the control.
