Every representation of the tight five-clique/Wagner-complement interface compresses to four colors
Working theorem,12October2026. The source graph is the known nine-chromatic biplanar graph of Paper22v1 Theorem1, not a new construction. The new claim is an ambient reduction covering every layer representation of that core. It treats an actual eight-terminal, four-chromatic interface. Earlier five-terminal five-clique reductions are working notes; Paper41 instead concerns four-terminal exposure and a different dense-interface exclusion.
Statement
Let Q be a five-clique and S eight vertices inducing H=C8(2,3), with Q complete to S, in a biplanar graph G. Here the terminal cyclic labels are 0..7 and adjacency differences are2,3,5,6 modulo8; H is the complement of the Wagner graph. Deleting Q permits simultaneous identification of four independent terminal pairs in the two planar layers, preserving every edge with both endpoints outside Q. The quotient has nine fewer vertices and its four terminal vertices induce K4.
In particular, a globally minimum-order biplanar graph that is not nine-colorable has no true-twin K5 with this exact common neighborhood. More generally, if the five extra-neighbor counts outside Q union S, sorted nonincreasingly as b1,...,b5, satisfy bi<=5-i, every nine-coloring of the quotient extends. No bound on the rest of the ambient graph is imposed. This is not a general private-K5 theorem or an occurrence result.
Why a finite representation proof is sufficient
The core Q join H has13vertices and66edges, exactly6n-12. In every biplanar representation its induced layers are edge-disjoint sphere triangulations with33edges each. Shared occurrences would lower the union count below66. Each simple triangulation on13vertices is 3-connected, so Whitney's uniqueness theorem fixes its embedding up to sphere homeomorphism and reflection. It therefore suffices to cover all layer edge partitions and to exhibit the same four-pair routing in both literal rotations of each representative. Independent reflection of either whole layer does not affect existence of its routes.
There are exactly three representation orbits under the explicit source automorphisms S5 on Q, D8 on the terminal cycle, and exchange of layers. Their labeled layer0-assignment orbit sizes are3840,1920,1920. All7680 assignments are covered; the orbits are disjoint. Their private component sizes, up to exchange, are respectively(5;4+1),(5;3+1+1),(5;5). Thus disconnected private layers are essential here.
The finite coverage statement is an independently checked UNSAT premise, not an inference from local moves. A face-incidence formula describes necessary conditions for two triangulations: exact edge partition,33edges and22facial triangles per layer, minimum degree3, each selected face's three edges, exactly two selected faces per present edge, and no literal K5 orK3,3 in a layer. Verified automorphism lex constraints retain a lexicographically maximal genuine solution. The complete known orbits are blocked by their layer0 edge assignments. Any uncovered genuine representation would satisfy the remaining formula.
CaDiCaL refutes that formula. A separate LRAT checker verifies the literal
proof. The final CNF has22666variables and62239clauses; SHA256

No lazy geometric cuts are used. An independently written generator-closure
checker rebuilds the positive orbits from adjacent private transpositions,
terminal rotation/reflection, and layer exchange; it checks all7680 blocking
clauses literally. The encoding also passes fixed actual-face assignments
from this source and from Sulanke's K6 join C5 after triangulating its layers.
Those controls support implementation validation; the necessary-condition
argument and LRAT refutation are the proof premises.
Literal routes and ambient transfer
For each representative we remove the Q vertices and their internal-edge neighborhoods, retaining the old Q-to-S spoke windows. All boundary circles of each private connected component are computed from its literal rotation. There are seven proper four-pair partitions of H. The independent verifier checks positive routes for all7 in layer0 and2 in layer1 of representative0; for6 in each layer of representative1; and for7 in layer0 and2 in layer1 of representative2. Each representative has a common positive partition, so only these positive witnesses are needed; negative menu entries are not a premise.
In the supplied labels one valid common partition for every representative is
(5,6), (7,8), (9,10), (11,12).
The specific choice need not be preserved by relabeling the actual core: transport the chosen representative's partition by the same source isomorphism used for its two layers.
Every pair is joined by a single arc in one private component, extended along its two old spoke strips. Different pair arcs are disjoint. The literal checker verifies boundary positions and rotations and the Euler identity v-e+f=2c for the corresponding orientable ribbon graph. This realizes the arcs in the genus-zero private surface with its marked boundary circles; unmarked holes may be restored in complementary regions. The component neighborhoods and old spoke strips avoid all retained ambient vertices and edges. At each retained terminal, contracting its pair keeps every old exterior incidence in its original sector.
Equivalently, in representative0 the four arcs join two marked circles with opposite cyclic orders of their matching endpoints. Its layer0 orders are(10,5,11,8) and(6,9,7,12), and its layer1 orders are(9,6,8,11) and(5,10,12,7). They give four disjoint cross-circle arcs in each layer. The other representatives have the same directly checked ribbon interpretation. No terminal branching, private spanning-tree restriction, or newly added ambient completion edges are needed.
Performing the identifications in both layers yields the same vertex quotient, with all retained exterior edges. The paired vertices are nonadjacent, so no loop is created. Since H has independence number2, its four pair vertices are mutually adjacent. This proves the geometric statement after the finite representation coverage.
Coloring extension
A nine-coloring of the quotient uses four names on the terminal K4. For q_i there are at least5-bi names left outside those four. Color the private vertices in the sorted order i=1,...,5. The inequality5-bi>=i leaves a name after the preceding i-1 clique vertices have been colored. This extends every quotient coloring and retains every exterior color. In the true-twin case allbi=0. Global minimum order supplies a coloring of the smaller biplanar quotient; deletion-criticality alone does not.
Evidence and limits
The literal source/route verifier uses only the Python standard library and imports no discovery code. It reconstructs the exact66-edge core, checks both sphere rotations by directed face walks, reconstructs each private boundary by a separate truncated-spoke leaf map, and verifies every positive pair-route ribbon map. The orbit checker is also independent of the orbit producer. The remaining finite premise is the necessary face formula together with its checked LRAT refutation.
The classification concerns the fixed13-vertex graph, not all K5 common neighborhoods. Earlier independent, one-edge, and star five-terminal reductions do not cover this four-chromatic eight-terminal graph. The reduction does not show that any such module occurs in a counterexample. The unrestricted Earth–Moon problem remains open.
