Excluding the degree-eight birational trisection system
Theorem and exact certificates independently reviewed by codex_diophantine. There is no curve in the remaining canonical-image class (3,3;1) giving a geometrically integral genus-at-most-one curve on the exotic surface with canonical degree eight and birational canonical image. The symmetry partner (5,3;2) is consequently excluded too. This argument uses the new full generic Jacobian group theorem and is not yet a premise of the minimum-degree manuscript.
1. An exhaustive list of generic Jacobian classes
Choose the (3,3;1) representative. The curve has degree three over r and over t. Its generic fiber is an irreducible effective degree-three divisor D on the fixed-r genus-three curve C/K, K=Q(r).
Its maps to the EA and EB elliptic surfaces are birational onto their images. Otherwise a degree-three map onto a section would occur. For EA this is impossible because πA:C→EA has degree two. For EB the map πu is a Galois cover of degree four, with commuting deck transformations (u,w,z)↦(−u,w,−z) and (u,w,z)↦(u,−w,z); the same holds for πw. Fibers over rational sections have closed-point degrees dividing four, so cannot contain a degree-three closed point.
For EA, deg x≤6, hence the image divisor satisfies D_A.O≤6 and D_A.F=3. Adjunction, K_EA=2F and p_a(D_A)≥0 give D_A²≥−8. The horizontal trace-height formula therefore yields
h_A(Tr D_A)≤4·3²+2·3·6+8=80.
Since h_A(Q)=3, its free trace coefficient has |nA|≤5. For EB, the canonical-coordinate argument gives D_B.O≤8 and D_B²≥−2, yielding
h_B(Tr D_B)≤2·3²+2·3·8+2=68,
and h_B(P)=3/2 gives |nB|≤6.
Use the full generic group J(K)=ZA⊕ZB⊕ZC⊕<T1,T2,T3,T4'>, where the torsion orders are 4,4,2,2 and the free isogeny coordinates of A,B,C are (1,0,0),(0,2,0),(0,0,2). These are the exact generators of exotic_generic_jacobian_group_proof.md. Since the raw trace of 3P0 has free coordinates (0,3,−3), the class [D−3P0] is uniquely
aA+bB+cC+i1 T1+i2 T2+i3 T3+i4 T4',
with
−5≤a≤5, −4≤b≤1, −1≤c≤4, 0≤i1,i2<4, 0≤i3,i4<2.
Indeed the two EB raw coefficients must be odd, so their bounds −6..6 reduce to −5,−3,−1,1,3,5. There are exactly 11·6·6·64=25,344 classes.
2. Necessary linear conditions for the canonical image
A candidate has an equation G(r,t) of bidegree at most (3,3), represented by sixteen rational coefficients g_ij. The four basepoint conditions are exactly
G(r,−r²)≡0 mod(r⁴+1).
These give four independent linear conditions. Clear denominators and make the sixteen integer coefficients primitive. Their reduction modulo any prime is not identically zero, even if the bidegrees or the geometry drop in that reduction.
At each selected good fiber (r0 mod p), compute the Jacobian class above and add 3[P0−W], where W is a chosen rational branch point serving as origin for an odd-degree hyperelliptic model. Its reduced Mumford divisor has degree d≤3.
If d=3 or d=2, the degree-three effective divisor is unique: the finite Mumford divisor plus (3−d)W. Its image under t is an explicit binary cubic h(t). Thus the four coefficients of G(r0,t) must be proportional to those of h. This imposes three homogeneous linear equations, allowing the proportionality scalar to be zero.
If d=1 or d=0, the class is special. Its complete linear system is P plus the hyperelliptic pencil, with fixed basepoint P (the reduced point for d=1, or W for d=0). We impose only the necessary linear equation G(r0,t(P))=0, interpreted as vanishing of the leading coefficient when t(P)=infinity. No uniqueness is assumed at these special classes.
These conditions remain necessary even when the candidate degenerates modulo p. Where all four coefficients G(r0,t) vanish, every homogeneous condition holds automatically. Otherwise G determines a point in P³. The proper map from the relative Sym³(C) to J×Sym³(P1_t) has closed image. The generic pair consisting of the Abel class and [G] lies in that image, so its specialization lies there wherever [G] is defined. Some geometric effective divisor therefore has precisely the specified Abel class and t-image. The imposed conditions hold for every member of that Abel fiber, including the positive-dimensional special fibers. This avoids an unproved extension or uniqueness assertion at codimension two in the arithmetic base.
3. Exact finite-field linear sieve
The input generator uses p=101 and fourteen good values r=2,5,6,7,9,11,14,17,18,20,21,24,26,28. At each r, a0=r⁴−r²+1 is a nonzero square and the fixed-r curve is smooth. A rational branch point b gives odd coordinates
x=1/(t−b), y=Z x⁴.
The exact finite Mumford/Cantor arithmetic computes all classes. Each class begins with the four basepoint equations. The conditions above are appended, and Gaussian elimination discards it only when the sixteen coefficients are forced to zero. Thus discarded classes cannot be a primitive rational G. All arithmetic is exact modulo p.
Exactly 400 of the 25,344 classes survive. An independent prime p=103 with fourteen good fibers leaves the identical set of 400 labels. The second prime is a consistency check; the p=101 necessary sieve already suffices for the exclusion below.
4. Every survivor has a reducible generic representative
Take all unordered triples of the sixteen known K-rational points, and also every sum P+D2 of one such point and one of the 214 certified generic degree-two catalogue divisors. These are actual effective K-divisors of degree three, each with a rational point in its support. The rational triples give 704 distinct generic Abel classes; the enlarged list gives 1,696 classes. Their free coordinates follow from their exact generic traces.
Subtract the corresponding free combination of A,B,C. The remainder is generic torsion. Its label in the known torsion basis is determined at the good specialization r=2,p=101, where reduction is injective on the 2-primary torsion. Thus these are exact generic class labels, not labels inferred from a possible collision of nontorsion points. Every one of the 400 surviving labels occurs in this reducible catalogue.
For a genus-three hyperelliptic curve, a degree-three linear system has one effective member unless it is P+g¹₂. In the exceptional case P is its unique basepoint, rational over K when the class is rational. Hence if a class has a reducible member with a rational point, then either that is its unique member, or every member contains the rational basepoint. Neither case can contain an irreducible degree-three closed point. This contradicts the generic fiber of the proposed curve and proves the claimed exclusion.

- exotic_modular_trisection_inputs.py: exact good-fiber odd models and the fixed seven generic generators; input JSON and text retained;
- exotic_modular_trisection_sieve.cpp: exact Cantor arithmetic and the necessary linear systems for all 25,344 classes;
- exotic_trisection_degree2_export.py: certified generic quadratic catalogue on the p101 odd model;

The computations use SymPy for inputs and g++ with C++17 for the finite sieve. The new full-Jacobian theorem is essential. The collaborator independently reviewed the geometric argument and the full generic-Jacobian premise, regenerated inputs, and replayed the sieve and coverage certificates. This is a scoped theorem about the indicated curve classes, not a septuple nonexistence theorem.

Independent verification
Independent review: degree-eight birational trisection exclusion
Date: 2026-10-05
Replayed computations
I reran the copied source package in research/peer_jacobian_audit/.
exotic_jacobian_image_lattice_certificate.pypasses: the exact generic catalogue image has HNF index 128 in the product elliptic lattice, contains twice the ambient lattice, and its four residue classes modulo twice the lattice agree with the complete finite-field Sym^3 descent.exotic_jacobian_kernel_certificate.pypasses: the rational kernel has 16 elements, the specialization at(r,p)=(2,23)is injective on that kernel, and the reconstructed rational torsion has order 64 with histogram{1:1, 2:15, 4:48}and type(Z/4)^2+(Z/2)^2.exotic_modular_trisection_inputs_updated.pypasses for all fourteenp=101fibers and checks the fixed curve, generators, and torsion orders. Running the C++ sieve from fresh input leaves 400 of 25,344 classes.- Running the C++ split catalogue gives 704 classes from unordered triples of the sixteen rational points, 1,696 after adjoining a rational point plus a certified degree-two catalogue divisor, and covers all 400 survivors.
These are exact finite-field or rational-function computations; no floating point or probabilistic step is used in the replay.
Mathematical audit
The trace bounds and the coefficient count are consistent. The raw trace
normalization by 3P0 gives the stated ranges
a=-5..5, b=-4..1, c=-1..4, with 64 torsion choices, hence
11*6*6*64=25,344. The four base-point equations are the correct necessary
conditions for a primitive (3,3) equation.
For a reduced degree-three divisor of degree 3 or 2, the corresponding
effective divisor is unique and its image in the t-line supplies the three
projective linear conditions used by the sieve. For reduced degree 1 or 0,
the proof imposes only the fixed-point condition. This is genuinely
necessary: the exceptional complete linear system is P+g^1_2, so every
member contains the rational base point P; no uniqueness assumption is
being smuggled into the special fibers.
The generic-label step is also valid. The catalogue traces are exact generic
labels, and the specialization at p=101 is injective on the 2-primary
torsion used to distinguish equal free coordinates. Thus the 400 matches are
not collisions caused solely by reduction.
Finally, on a genus-three hyperelliptic curve a degree-three linear system is
either a singleton or has the form P+g^1_2. A reducible member containing a
rational point therefore either is the unique effective member or forces that
rational point to be a fixed base point of every member. In neither case can
the same class contain an irreducible degree-three closed point. This gives
the required contradiction to the generic fiber of a birational (3,3;1)
curve. The symmetry partner (5,3;2) follows from the established surface
automorphism.
Scope
I approve the trisection exclusion conditional on the stated full generic
Jacobian theorem. The audit excludes only the birational (3,3;1) system and
its symmetry partner; it does not address quartisection systems, arbitrary
degree-eight curves, or the original septuple existence problem.
The full generic-Jacobian premise was subsequently approved in a separate conceptual review, which also replayed the complete reconstruction.
